Question
Hello. I just noticed today while looking in the mirror that my front two teeth and one tooth directly next to one of my front two teeth have white sploches on them....mainly on on the bottom part of the tooth?  What is causing this and how do I stop this....because now that i just noticed it...(it had to appear within the last couple of days) the splotches seem...very noticiable.....please help!

Answer
Dear Ms. Winston,

White focal areas of enamel discoloration almost always do not appear over a span of days, and I am inclined to think that in your case you simply noticed a longstanding phenomenon rather than something new. White opacities are most often the result of a congenital malformation in the enamel. Alternately, they may represent the initial stages of tooth decay.

Your best recourse is to contact your dentist so that the nature of the discoloration can be assessed and appropriate measures implemented.

Hope this helps...
