Question Hello,
About two years ago, I had a root canal on a badly cavitied molar (top left, second back from my canine). After the treatment, I noticed a tender bump above the tooth and it has been that way ever since. Last month, the bump grew to about the size of a pea and was very tender (Not painfull, though) and the tooth has gone a greyish colour. The bump's shrunk back down to how it was now, but there's a small hole just above my tooth (below the bump) which keeps leaking yellow fluid, especially if I put pressure above it.
Please help me learn what this is & how to treat it - I'm a traveler and am not registered with a dental practice (UK)
Thankyou so much for your help.
Answer Lauren,
I am sorry that I did not answer this sooner...I just received it from All Experts.
This sounds like you have what is called a fistula present over the root of that tooth. A fistula is a drainage point for the infection that is present. Once it pops up, swelling and pain usually goes away because it now has a way to drain the pressure off.
You need to see a dentist or preferably an endodontist (a root canal specialist) to have the area evaluated. Perhaps it needs retreating. Make an appointment right away.
