Dentistry/discomfort from high filling

Question
I recently had two fillings on the lower left side back two molars.  The dentist left the filling waaaay to high requiring two visits to fix it.  In the meantime I ended up with a fracture on #3 and required a root canal.
Since having the root canal I have developed discomfort on the lower left only when biting intermittently.
Can favoring that side with a high filling cause bruising of the tooth?
thank you!

Answer
Carmen,

I am sorry to hear of your difficulties.  A high filling is sometimes an unavoidable consequence of placing a filling.  It is not uncommon for one or more adjustments to be needed to perfect the bite after a new filling is placed.  During the period when the filling is high, this may serve as a source of irritation to both the treated tooth and the opposing tooth that it chews against.  I am not familiar with any instances of irritation to teeth on the other side of the jaw.

It is likely that the problems presented are unrelated.

Best wishes,

Steve
