I was just researching this myself because I know that it runs in the family and my TMJs have been rather loud lately but I've found that it can be as simple as where you focus your chewing. Try chewing on the side that is popping. Having more force focused on the opposite side can act like a hinge and pop the joint a little bit. Hope this helps. It does for me.
