Dentistry/is my filling the problem?

Question
I have a tooth that overlapps my upper front tooth and have a small filling in that area.  Every once in a while I feel as though there is something stuck between my teeth and it is very annoying.  When i last saw the hygenist she said there was a rough spot on my filling that needed polishing, Could this be what causing this feeling?  I've tried several kinds of floss and nothing helps.

Answer
Dear Jamie,

The filling could indeed be contributing to your perception that something is stuck between your teeth. In addition, the fact that the feeling is intermittent may indicate that the filling is loose, and may be moving around in the cavity.

You should consider having your dentist check that the filling is secure; if not, the filling should be replaced.

Hope this helps...
