Question
QUESTION: Answer:
Hi James

The denture just needs adjusting slightly - see your dentist and they
will easily be able to sort this out.

It is quite usual for the teeth adjacent to an extraction site to show
symptoms for a while after the extraction - this should settle.

Hi Tony as you can see from above i have had a tooth out and had a temp denture in that has been adjusted a few times and fits a lot better now and the tooth looks better than the extracted 1 lol
however its been a week and a bit since the extraction and im still getting a little pain and sensitivity in a tooth beside the extracted 1 i know you said this is normal and should settle after a while maybe im being impatient but i was wondering if it should have settled by now i mentioned it to my dentists the other day and he immediately said that it was due to the extraction and the denture however he didnt take x rays etc i just wondered if this has happened to you and basically is what im feeling normal ?

thanks in advance again
James

ANSWER: Hi James

It may take another week or two for the symptoms to settle - don't worry unless the symptoms start to get worse.

QUESTION: Merry Christmas mate

thanks again for all your advice in the past few months i do hope this settles down itself especially what with this time of year etc i guess when i got the tooth out i thought that would be the end of it i just needed to know that you have had patients in your chair with the same questions and worries i guess is this the case mate ?
Thanks again mate
James

Answer
Yes this is the case - you are bound to worry as this has been a new experience for you, so not knowing what is 'normal' can be a concern.

At the moment the bone around the extraction site is healing - it has had a traumatic event (an extraction) and the adjacent tissues/teeth just need time while this healing occurs.

I have been a general dental practitioner for over 25 years, working initially under the NHS, but since 2001 have been solely in private practice. I run a busy practice with my wife, Lisa, who is also a dentist. I have also been closely involved in the training of young dentists, and have lectured to dentists on a variety of subjects, both clinical and managerial, related to general dental practice.
