Question
The hygenist at my new dentist said that I have periodontal disease; I'm not sure that I do.  I have no bleeding when I brush or floss and my gums are not sore.  I do not have bad breath.  She measured a "5" when checking my teeth.  Do I need scaling?  I have never had this done; I'm 62 if that makes any difference.  It's been a year since I had a dental cleaning (we moved from our former community).

Answer
Hi,
Each case is different, but usually when there are pockets 5mm or more, a deep scaling is usually in order. You should listen to the recommendations of a dentist you trust. If you have any other questions, let me know. I hope this info helps.

Best of Luck,
