-----Question-----
I have recently had root canal treatment done (in england). As i couldnt really see what was happening im not sure what the treatment was...! can you explain it to me?
he seemed to drill a hole in the tooth and then push a pin in and out and then attach a metal crocodile clip to it which beeped!
what was going on!?!
cheers
-----Answer-----
Hi Chris,

Basically, your dentist drilled a hole to get to the inside of the tooth. After he had access, the beeping was electronically measuring how long the tooth was. After he knows that, he takes instruments and cleans and shapes the inside of the tooth to prepare it for the root canal filling which is then cemented and packed into the tooth all the way down to the end.

If you would like more explanation with pictures, I would refer you to aae.org which is the website for the American Association of Endodontists and there are very good explanations with nice graphics...that I can't do for you... that will probably give you more info than you really wanted....*S*...

Hope this helps.

Answer
Hi Chris,

You need to call your dentist ASAP and tell him/her what is going on. You may need another antibiotic and/or stronger pain medication. Since I can't examine you, it is really hard for me to tell you exactly what is going on or what to do, but your dentist should be able to. What you are going through is NOT normal, so please call!
