Question
I went to the dentist 5 days ago and he put in a silver filling, this was my first silver filling and I didn't know much about them.  I am breastfeeding could this harm my baby?

Answer
Dear jamie,

Although minute amounts of mercury are thought to be secreted in breast milk, the current consensus is that the amount is far below the level where any toxicity is manifest. So, although additional data may change the conventional wisdom in this matter, silver amalgams are not thought to pose any risk to either mother or breastfeeding child.

Hope this helps...
