Dentistry - wisdom tooth

Expert: Joel S. Teig, DMD, FABOMS - 4/7/2005

Question
my lower left wisdom tooth is comming in sidways so i have to have it removed, and iwas wondering what i could do in advance and after to minimize the pain. i was also wondering what they do to remove the tooth.

Answer
Nicole- i haveasked patients to take a 400 mg dose of ibuprofeb about six hours prior to surgery.   many doctors have different opinions so I suggest you speak with your oral and maxillofacial and see his techniques to reduce complications.

Removal usually involves a small incision and then sectioning the tooth in pieces.

Careful and technique oriented surgery is imperative. This is why only a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon is qualified to perform the surgery.

Best of luck.
