Dermatology - Cellulitis

Expert: Michael S. Fisher, Ph.D., M.D. - 10/22/2009

Question
I developed a case of cellulitis post surgery on my knee. I was prescribed a round of IV drugs and then ten days of oral antibiotics. The site of the infection has improved significantly the redness has decreased and the swelling has gone down. However I still feel tired and sick and have a low grade fever at night. is this normal?

Answer
No what you describe is not normal. You may have an infection in the surgical site. You need to go back to the doctor that did the surgery ASAP or you need to visit an infectious disease doctor. The low grade fever could mean you still have an infection or you are coming down with a virus but the knee needs to be inspected to make sure there is no infection
