Dermatology - Brown bump on face

Expert: Michael S. Fisher, Ph.D., M.D. - 11/1/2009

Question
I have had this brown bump on the left side of my chin for quite a while, now. I began to scratch the edges and now its more of a brown dot in the middle of a whitish bump. I have been applying topical acne medication for about a week and it doesn't seem to do anything. Please help!

Answer
The "brown bump" could be a number of skin conditions. This could be a mole or nevus. This could be a lentigo which is like a freckle. This could be skin irritation with subsequent increased pigment. Since I cannot see your skin, I recommend that you visit your local dermatologist to make sure of the diagnosis.
