Dermatology - Skin lesion mosquito like

Expert: Michael S. Fisher, Ph.D., M.D. - 11/2/2009

Question
I have been getting these skin lesions on for approx 2-3 weeks now. They each last about a 4 days. They start of like a pinkish bumps and rapidly form into a bigger red itchy bumps that once scratched turn into a mosquite bite like lesion. At first I was getting them on my arms, shoulder, neck an face but now (approx 3 days ago) iv been getting them on my legs too. Weirdly, the ones on my legs turned into red bruise-like lesions. But only the ones on my legs.

Melissa

Answer
The lesions could be a number of different skin conditions. They could be papular urticaria which is treated with topical cortisone and is similar to insect bites. With difficult skin conditions, I recommend a skin biopsy to help with the diagnosis.
