Dermatology - dots on skin

Expert: Michael S. Fisher, Ph.D., M.D. - 11/4/2009

Question
My son has brown dots that at one point we where able to get white puss out like popping a pimple. He is now 4 but has had them for 2-3 years. We where told that it is a fungis. For even after popping them they did not go away! He still has the marks and it now looks like moles. He contunuis to get more of them not rapidly but slowly getting more. Any clue to what this is?
Thanks Jeff

Answer
If your son has a "fungus" it could be tinea versicolor which is yeast like organism. There is another skin condition that this could be called Urticaria Pigmentosa which is a form of cutaneous mastocytosis. This could also be folliculitis which is a superficial bacterial infection and is treated with antibiotics. Since I cannot see your son's skin, I recommend that you visit your local dermatologist to make sure of the diagnosis.
