Dermatology/Topical steroid

Question
Hi, my 1 month year old son was prescribed topical steroid for his eczema on his face. I noticed that it caused skin discoloration and lightening on some areas and now his face appears blotchy. Will this go away or is it permanent?

Answer
What your son has is called postinflammatory hypopigmentation.  What this means is that the inflammation from the eczema cause a decrease in the skin pigment.  This is temporary and will eventually resolve. I prefer Elidel to treat this condition as it is a non steroid and thus has fewer side effects.
