Question Hi,
Last year I asked my doctor to biopsy a mole that seemed to be changing in color. It also had a white stripe down the middle. The results came back moderate to severe cancerous cells. This year we biopsied 2 more. My Doc. said that she wasn't worried about these moles because of their size, shape, color but if it would make me feel better she would run the biopsy. Guess what? They came back with moderate dysplasia. First off, I am not sure what that means. Does that mean cancerous, or are they cells that will turn out to be cancerous if not removed? My second question is that I have more moles mostly on my back. Some are pink, some are elevated, some are dark, they all seem to be different somehow in shape, color, form...My Doc. wasn't concerned about the (2) that were biopsied this year and when I expressed my concern about the others she said that cancers grows, so her advice would be to leave it to her medical eye and watch. I don't doubt my doctor but this is the 3rd mole that has proven to come back abnormal. The thing is, I am not the individual that fits the profile listed on some of these websites. No history of melanoma's, dark hair, dark eyes, I stay out of the sun and generally cover up when outside, I am not Irish (I heard they are more prone to melanoma's)Should I be worried? In your expert opinion do you think that my Doctors advice is the appropriate course to take?
Thank you for your time

Answer Tammy:
Perhaps you have Dysplastic Nevus...go to www.google.com to read about that...read the page posted by emedicine.
Please, take some pictures and send them to jvelasq51@hotmail.com with the words JMC in subject; donīt forget to remember me your data, and tell me the microscopic description of the mole.
If you canīt, please visit a board certified dermatologist, preferable one at an University teaching Hospital.
