My outbreak is small (maybe 1x2 inches on one hand) but it is recurring and the itching is driving me crazy (especially at night). Years ago a dermatologist prescribed clobetasol propianate, and I still use it occasionally. I have tried benedryl cream, neosporin and mosturizer. They control the itching and dry skin for a while, but they don't cure it. The only thing I have found for nighttime itching is an ice pack. It stops the itch so I can get some sleep, but dries my skin so badly i have trouble bending my fingers the next day.
Thanks for your help
Jo
Answer There are a number of skin condition on the hands that can cause your skin problem. You could have a skin condition called Dyshidrosis which occurs on the feet and hands only. Dyshidrosis presents with small blisters on the fingers. Stress makes this condition worse and this condition is genetic. Dyshidrosis can be controlled but not cured.
You may also have what is called Hand Eczema. Hand Eczema can be caused by allergies to agents that come in contract with the skin on the hands. The treatment is to find the cause and use anti-histamines like Allegra and topical cortisone like you are using. Use mild soaps like Dove or Cetaphil and moisturizers like Eucerin Cream.
