Dermatology - Ingrown Hair on Legs

Expert: Michael S. Fisher, Ph.D., M.D. - 5/18/2004

Question
I have fair skin and freckles. I constantly have ingrown hairs on my legs. What can I do to eliminate this problem? I have started tweezing them and it only makes sores and bumps. Now my legs are terrible. Please help.

Answer
When you shave you can try Benzashave 10%, a prescription medication, and then follow with BUMP PATROL which is over the counter. If you shave with cold water, you do not get as deep of shave and you should have less break outs on your legs. Another possibility is to have laser hair removal and that way you would not have to worry about ingrown hairs.
