Question Hello. I am asking this question for a very good friend of mine.He is 48,and in great health. Yesterday,he noticed a red rash on the underside of his penis. It is dry,no itching, not as much painful,as very uncomfortable. The redness extends down to his scrotum. He has no fever,no other symptoms. The day before,he had been doing carpentry work, cutting plywood, and some of the sawdust may have ended up in his clothing. Also it was hot,and he was sweating alot. Other than that, the only thing we can think of is that his wife put too much bleach into the laundry, which included his underware. He always pratices safe sex,and because this came up so suddenly,we are wondering what is causing this redness/rash,and what he can do for it. Thank you very much from the both of us for any help you can give us.
Answer This rash could have been caused by the hot weather or an allergic reation to his work. The normal treatment for this is a cortisone cream with iodine called Vytone Cream 1% but this is a prescription medication. You can try over the counter Cortaid or Cortisone 10 but if that does not help then you need to visit your local dermatologist as I cannot see the skin lesion and thus cannot be totally sure of the diagnosis and treatment.
