Dermatology - Sore inside the nose

Expert: Michael S. Fisher, Ph.D., M.D. - 11/15/2006

Question
I have something inside my nose, although I can't see anything but it hurts and my husband has the same thing. His nose will hurt one week and the following week, mine will hurt. There will be a red spot on the outside of my nose, but it hurts so bad that I can barely blow my nose.
What is this and why do we get this at the same time or a week off?

Answer
If the lesion is inside the nose you most likely have a Staph infection. The treatment for the lesion inside the nose is to get a prescription for Centany Ointment and apply it inside the nose twice a day for 2-3 weeks. If the lesions is outside the nose then you have a cyst, most likely an acne cyst. The cysts in the skin are not just superficial and therefore you would need an antibiotic like Doryx or Solodyn to control the breakouts. I recommend that you visit your local dermatologist for the correct medication to help your skin condition.
