Dermatology - rash

Question
Whenever I am in the sun, I get an itchy rash on my exposed limbs.  If you look close you can see round spots (they look like bug bites but they are not) and they itch like crazy.  Around those large spots is a warm area with little tiny bumps. It is not from touching anything.  It is much better with sun screen which I normally wear.  However, I am wondering what this is?  I live in northern U.S. so we only have a short warm season and I love to take advantage of the outdoors.  (I was diagonosed with eczema earlier this year; itchy and red legs).  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Sun sensensitivity can be caused by oral medications, systemic diseases like Lupus, a skin condition called Polymorphous light eruption and other systemic causes.  The first recomendation would be to get blood work to make sure you do not have a systemic cause for the skin disease and then a biopsy of the rash when it appears so that you can have a diagnosis.  Eczema is usually helped by the sun and not made worse.  If you have any american indian blood you have polymorphous light eruption.
