Expert: R. Ferguson - 10/23/2009
Question Hello sir,
I have a wealth of video footage in MP4 format, from concerts I have been to all over the world. I have backed them up using disks and also online storage. But ive always wanted to watch them on my tv, so how can i do this. I know im going to have to use a program that converts the file before burning to a dvd videos file or an iso, because not many dvds play mp4s from what i understand.
Which program is best for this and are there any other suggestions you could offer as to how i can watch my mp4 clips on my tv while backing them up at the same time.
Best, Lee"
Answer I've had varying luck converting from MP4's. I recently had a project where I had success w/ 5 discs but the 6th one wouldn't copy/rip. Not sure why.
If it were me, I'd skip trying to convert them to DVD's. You're going to lose quite a bit of quality. I would get a long VGA cable, hook it to my TV and play the videos from my 'puter. (Oh yeah, you'll need to hook up the sound too). That will give you the best quality.
Otherwise, you just need a program that will convert from mp4 to mpeg2. Go to download.com and do a search. There are quite a few there though I haven't used any of them and can't recommend one. When I use mp4's, I just bring them into Avid and then export them. Some other video editing programs may handle mp4's as well. MovieMaker doesn't, though.
I hope this is somewhat helpful.
Good luck.
