AboutScott A Wilson Expertise Most ordinary differential equations.
Experience I have taken Differential Equations at OSU.
Occasionally I have assisted people with questions on the subject.
Publications In the paper where MS students publish a thesis on shock waves and rarefaction fans.
Education/Credentials MS at OSU in Mathemematics.
MS at OSU in Mathematical Science.
Awards and Honors Graduation with honors for my BS and MS.
Past/Present Clients I answered many questions at OSU, down in south seattle at a college, at a church in Corvallis, OR,
as Safeway in Washington, and many other areas. I have had several thousand right here.
Question Tank T1 with 400litre capacity is initially half full with 100grams of salt dissolve in water. Tank T2 with 200 litre capacity is initially half full with pure water. solution flows through a pipe from tank T1 to tank T2 at 8 litres per minute. solution flows in opposite direction through another pipe at the rate of 12 litres per minute. The solution is kept uniform by stirring.
i) Find the amount of salt y1(t) and y2(t) in tank T1 and tank T2, respectively, at any t.
ii) Determine the amount of salt in each tank as t approaches infinity
Answer Again, I' not quite sure this is right, but here goes.
You can look at it and tell me what you think.
If you get a better way to do it, let me know.
Let L be litres and G be grams.
The amount of stuff in T1 is 200L of water and 100G of salt.
The amount of stuff in T2 is 100L of water and 0G of salt.
Let D1 be the density of salt in T1 and D2 be the density of the salt in T2.
It is known that both are functions of time t.
D1'(t) = [100 + 12t*D2(t) - 8*D1(t)]/(200+4t)
D2'(t) = [8*D1(t) - 12t*D2(t)]/(200-4t).
