Question Hello Sara,
I have an old book that was published in the early 1900's with text, photos and illustrations that were printed in black. The book is deteriorating and I was told it may be worth reproducing. I think the most difficult part would be to capture the photos and illustrations digitally and get high quality reproductions, keeping all the details. All the photos, etc. are in good shape, the paper has not yellowed. What equipment would you suggest? Thanks, Clark K.
Answer The most important thing is to scan in the photos at 300 dpi or higher resolution. Any good scanner should work. You will have to make sure it does not pick up the grain/print screen markings. Most good scanners will have an option in the scan dialog to reduce that screen effect. I use an Epson scanner and I am very happy with it. Find one that comes with easy to use software, that fits your budget.
