Question I can find no information in any of my books on scanning a photo into my computer, only using a digital camera. I would like to enter some older photos into my computer so that I can email them to my daughter and can't figure this out. I am using an HP Windows Vista computer and HP Photosmart C5180 All-in-One. Can you help?
Answer Scanning should be very easy with this scanner...at the touch of a button. I tried to find a manual for your scanner online, so that I could give you step by step instructions, but I had no luck. Do you still have your manual? I found the HP website had a number of help sections...you might find the following info helpful:

To use the scan features, the unit and the computer must be connected and turned on. The HP Photosmart Software for Windows or the HP Photosmart Mac Software for a Macintosh must also be installed and running on the computer before scanning.
*
Windows : An HP Digital Imaging Monitor icon displays in the Windows system tray when the software is running.
*
Mac : The software is always running on a Macintosh computer.
Use the following steps to scan images into a computer:
1.
Load the original print side down on the right front corner of the glass or print side up in the document feeder tray.
2.
Press Scan Menu button.
3.
If the unit is directly connected to a computer with a Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable, a list of destinations, including software applications, displays. Proceed to step 6.
4.
If the unit is connected to a network, the Scan Menu displays. Proceed to step 5.
5.
Select a computer on the network.
1.
Press OK to select Select Computer . A list of the computers connected to the unit displays.
NOTE: The Select Computer menu might list computers with a USB connection in addition to those connected through the network.
2.
Press OK to select the default computer, or press the down arrow to select a different computer and then press OK . The Scan To menu displays, listing the applications on the selected computer.
6.
Press OK to select the default application to receive the scan, or press the down arrow to select a different application and then press OK .
NOTE: An editable preview image of the scan displays on the computer.
7.
Edit the preview image, if necessary, and then click Accept . The unit sends the scan to the selected application.
It is very important to make sure you have all the necessary software installed, everything hooked up properly and all the latest drivers downloaded. You can also find those on the HP website.
Please let me know if I can provide any further info.
