Subject: Memory stick

Question
After erasing all pictures on memory stick,my camera says  NO FILE ,however after plugging into my laptop,it still downloads the 44 or whatever pictures I have just deleted.Does that sound like a memory stick or camera issue??Have and old Sony Mavica fd100..thanks

Answer
Hi Ken,

Hmmm... my first guess is that the camera is simply writing a 'delete' character to the front of the files so it knows it can use the space. However, the laptop may not recognize that character or is trying to be helpful by getting everything anyway.

Some things to try include checking to see if there is a firmware update for your camera, and simply formatting the memory stick after you have deleted the files. Check for updates with your local camera store, or try contacting Sony directly, though I don't know if they will offer support.

I do not recommend using the laptop to delete or format your memory sticks - only do that in the camera so you don't risk making the stick useless.

I hope that helps! If you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

-Scott
