Question
What program will let me take a picture and only show one color? Like have a picture with a purple flower in it and only show the purple with the rest b&w

Answer
Hi Leon,

Any photo editing application that lets you use layers or painting tools will do the trick. I am most familiar with Photoshop, which can do this quite easily. If you are not familiar with Photoshop, most of this won't make sense, so please feel free to follow up.

A very quick way to do it would be to duplicate your photo onto a new layer, desaturate it, and then apply a layer mask so you can 'paint' in the color from the original below.

Another option, if you want to use a different color, is to desaturate your image, then use a paint brush on a new layer. Set the the layer blend mode to 'Color', then choose your color. Begin painting on the layer above the flower, and you will get a continuous tone in that area. You can also use many different colors in any way you wish.

I hope this helps. You might consider looking at The Gimp (use your favorite search engine to find it) which is a free photo editor, but can be quite complex.

Good luck, and please do follow up if you need more information!

-Scott
