Question
i have a Visioneer digital camera but the battery cover has broken.
I was wondering if the memory card from my camera would work with any other make of digital camera.

Answer
Chris - I have good news and bad news. The good news is that if your Visioneer camera uses Smart Media, you can probably find another camera that will accept the memory card.

The bad news is there aren't many from which to choose anymore. There are two kinds of Smart Media, 3.3 volt and 5 volt. The 3.3V version is newer, and has a small notch in the corner.

My recommendation is that if you are considering replacing your camera, making a decision based on using a single memory card will not serve you well. Compact Flash (CF) and Secure Digital (SD) are much more common now, which means the capacities are greater, the costs are down, and the variety of models from which to choose is staggering. There are other types of memory out there, but these two enjoy a significant lead.

I hope this helps, even though it may not be the answer you were looking for. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to follow up!

Happy shooting =)

-Scott
