Question
I have a long term disability ins policy through my employer. If my doctor says I'm not going to be able to return to work, can they cancel my benifits?

Answer
No, otherwise you could never use any type of policy, since you have to be disabled to use it.  The long term disability varies by policy, typically they require that you apply for social security disability, will pay you while that application is pending, and will require that you pay them back from the lump sum you receive from social security.  Not always, but those are typical statements.  You are technically still an employee and no, they can't cancel your benefits once you have made a claim.

I hope this helps,
