Disability Law - Expecting Vet without short-term disability

Expert: Kyla Kelim - 8/26/2008

Question
I am a veteran with less than one year of service dismissed under General
Honorable discharge due to mental condtion.  About a week after discharge I
discovered I was pregnant. I married the father and began work in a temp
agency. I have been dismissed by the temp agency until after my post partum
period of six weeks. I do not have any additional income and am concerned
about paying my bills for the six weeks that I recover from child birth. Is
there any programs out to help a person in my situation.

Answer
Stefie:  I would run to an employment lawyer in your area, as it would appear that you are covered under the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, at a minimum.  That attorney will be in a better position to tell you what other laws may apply to you.

Good luck and I hope this helps,

Kyla Kelim
