Disaster Planning - suppose you live more than 200 miles from where a hurricane 1st comes ashore
Expert: Rick Wellman - 6/9/2006
Question where a hurricane 1st comes ashore, what is likely to happen or to be expected of these choices; my home is too far from the hurricane and would not be damaged or high winds might damage my roof and surrounding trees might fall over or thunderstorms created from the hurricane may cause flooding in my area or high winds/tornadoes,flooding, possible lightning and hail from thunderstorms might damage my home?
Answer The answer to your question is, "it depends"....
Typically, when Hurricanes move inland away from the water, they lessen in intensity. However, they can cause flooding, tornados, high winds, thunderstorms, etc.
Your local radio or TV station would be the best source of information regarding approaching weather.
Hope that answers your question.
