Subject: Online Paralegal Program at Keiser in Florida

Question
I would like to know what you think or know of Keister University of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.  I am wanting to do an online degree in their Paralegal Studies and I want to be sure that it is a good program.

Answer
Hello Linda,

I have answered a number of questions about various paralegal programs. There seems to be a lot of interest in this career.

Here is Keiser's accreditation information:

ACCREDITATION
Keiser University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097) to award associate, bachelor’s and master's degrees.

It is very important that you select a training program accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA). Less than 300 of the 1000 paralegal programs in the US are accredited. Accreditation also paves the way for students to participate in federally funded grant and loan programs. Before deciding on a program, I suggest discussing this career path with a lawyer or paralegal to get an understanding of the opportunities. I recommend choosing a program where the instructors (or most of them) are licensed attorneys. Here is a link to the ABA's approved paralegal education programs: http://www.abanet.org/legalservices/paralegals/directory/4

Keiser is not in the list. Based on the competitiveness in this career, you should choose a school on the ABA list.

Good luck with your studies,
Cindy Wolfe
