Question
I work for the state of NY (Department of Corrections - prison system). Although I have two associates degrees (nursing and addictions counseling) and a four-year Organizational Management degree, I am required to have a four-year 'humanities' degree in order to move up or over for career advancement.

I'm thinking there must be an 'accredited' (i.e., one they will accept in NY) online college out there that will allow me to take only what I need to build on what I already have to earn a BS in some humanity (literally, any humanity) without the obligatory "you-must-take-a-minimum-of-thirty-four-credit-hours-from-us" to get a degree.

Any thoughts or suggestions on this?

Answer
Hello,

Walden university has a completion program in Nursing but 45 quarter hours are required to grant the degree it is a BS.  There is also a degree in interdisciplinary studies.  Give them a call 1800WALDENU and see how the programs do or do not meet your needs.  Their degree is accepted. Also consider a degree in Criminal Justice or Forensic Psych as you work in corrections.

I currently work in corrections and do not see it as a good field but that is my own personal perspective.  Have you considered being a DON?  Would this not mean just a BSN?

Good luck!
