Question
Brief description of past education and work experience:
Architect graduated from U.T at Austin, Bachelor degree, and have been practicing Architecture, Construction Managment and Project managment with firms and lately with my small design/Built firm.
I have practiced in the States and overseas.
(lately I just took advance Feng Shui design online at the American Feng Shui Institute)

I would appreciate if you could let me know where to find the best university that offers online a Master degree in Construction managment or Project management
( I have found out that the University of Texas at Dallas offers a Master degree in Project Management and the University of Florida offers a Master in Construction Management as well as UC Berkeley and Stanford offers a certificate in Project management)
2- I would like to know if it is not better in taking a Master degree than a Certificate for job prospects and in case I would like to teach in the future( just hesitating since these certificates are being offered by excellent universities)
3- Also I would appreciate if in your oppininon with my background would it be the best to take a Construction or Project management degree?
I think that Project managment will open more doors since it is more diverse.
Please what do you think?
4- When you take a master degree online , do they mention that it has been taken online? since some employees wiuld prefer, I guess, tot ake it on campus?
Thank you for your time and help.
Best Regards,
Nicolas

Answer
Nicolas,

Your questions are very long and involved but I will attempt to help with all I can.
Questions #
1. I would go with University of Texas.  The project management would offer you more diversity.  This is preferable since it would be better to keep your options open. Don't make your decision yet.

2. The Masters or certificate would be your own preference.  If you wish to teach at a later date, I guess that would depend on what level you wish to teach.  At a Tech your certificates and would experience are fine but at a collegiate level you would need no less than a master's.

3. Your project management background already allows you to expand further in that area. This would offer more diversity and would probably be better to consider. Contact a few of the better known names in your field for an opinion in that area.

4. I personally put University of Phoenix on my resume. I will honestly answer that I have done my work in an online setting but I do not go out of my way to advertise it.  UOP as with many colleges have ground settings and standard classrooms as well.  I just finished my MAED with a specialization in Technology and curriculm.  (My second masters is in education.)I also hold an MBA. Many people are beginning to see that the online students are real go getters since they work full-time while doing their Master's at the same time in a full-time setting.

You may wish to converse with a couple of PhD's in your field to determine if this is right for you.  The reason I do not push for you to go to the enrollment counselors in those areas is because overall their job is to draw students and get them to sign on the line.

Check with a couple of architects, construction firms and maybe even the state where you live to determine what the real need is. This will guide you to where your best possible opportunities may be.

Best of luck to you.

Cheryl
