Question
both my ex and i worked before and after we were married what I want to know is do I get half of his pension when we divorce we both have good pensions I work for the post office and he works for a private company how do I find out

Answer
Dear Gloria,
There are many ways to confront your situation. Every State varies in what each spouse is entitled to when proceeding with a divorce. Before you file, do your homework in accordance with the state you live in to become knowledgeable in what to ask for in your divorce. Hypothetically speaking, “You could possibly be entitled to half of his pension and he half of yours.” “Or you can just not ask for his half.”
It all depends on your specific circumstances.
Nevertheless, Research your states ‘Family Law’, is the first step.
Second; prepare yourself, if your estranged-husband contests your requests.
If you are unsure about doing this yourself, I recommend contacting a Professional Lawyer.

I hope this helps,
Rebecca
