Question
I live in New York state, while my husband is currently absconded on probation in Florida. We were married in Florida, however, I have not seen him in over a year, and haven't talked to him since spring. We have a 7 year old together. I paid for the whole marriage, and when I suggested he foots the divorce, he went off the radar. Child support, as well as probation can't find him. What can I do to get this ball rolling?

Answer
Hello Julie,
First, if you want a divorce you need to file for one, where you currently reside should be fine. Here is a link that might serve as a guide for you on what to do.

If you want to collect child support, The Child Support Enforcement program cannot enforce support if they do not know his whereabouts.
Another option would be to file for AFDC (Aid for dependent children.)This is a government program that will provide cash assistance to you providing you meet the qualifications. If it so happens that the program provides you with cash/medical and or food assistance, the support you receive will accumulate and when he is located, he will need to pay back the government the monies they paid to you.
Feel free to provide me with an update.

The best of luck
