Question I am an active duty service member stationed in Germany. I would like to divorce my husband who has returned to the states and lives in WY. I am not sure where we should file. We married in Nevada. I cannot travel back to the states for the proceedings. I am also concerned that he will not be in any hurry to sign the paperwork because the Army makes me pay him money every month. This is costing me a lot of money that I really can't afford every month. What can I do?
Answer Dear Andrea,
Military divorce has it's own special rules. I would highly recommend that you check out "Divorce and the Military II" by Marsha Thule and Frank Ault. It is very through and you can find it at the The American retirees Association website (google it). Generally, you file in the state in which you reside. Your husband lives in WY so you could file, via mail, in WY. Visit divorcesource.com for the laws surrounding divorce in WY. Also visit equalityinmarriage.org, divorcemag.com for more helpful info on divorce,
