Dodge Repair - tranny-no reverse

Expert: Kevin - 11/13/2009

Question
2007 Ram 1500, 5.7 ltr, 545rfe tranny, 68000 miles.
forward gears work. But, reverse does nothing. Changed fluid and filters, had the tranny flushed. These actions did not help.
Tried manual 1st accelerated to 3,000 rpm and got off pedal. This resulted in no visable engine braking. Had dtc PO736, reset by disconnecting negative terminal. No engine lights now but still does nothing when put into reverse.

Answer
THE StarSCAN® FLASH FILES FOR THIS BULLETIN ARE AVAILABLE VIA THE
INTERNET.
SUBJECT:
FLASH: 545RFE Transmission Defaults To Neutral
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control
Module (PCM) with new software.
MODELS:
2007 (DR/DH/D1/DC) Ram Truck (1500/2500/3500)
2007 (HB/HG) Durango / Aspen
2007 (ND) Dakota
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 545RFE transmission (sale
code DGQ) built on or before March 26, 2007 (MDH 0326XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The transmission may default into neutral gear if the transmission gear selector is moved
into “reverse gear range” under certain operating conditions.
The default into neutral gear is done to protect the transmission mechanical components
from potential damage. New PCM software will monitor transmission hydraulic pressure
and allow reverse gear engagement, if the transmission is in “reverse gear range” and the
transmission hydraulic pressure is sufficient to support reverse gear operation.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using a StarSCAN® with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in
TechCONNECT, verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs are
present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further
with this bulletin.
If the vehicle operator describes or experiences the Symptom/Condition, perform the
Repair Procedure.
