Question
Kevin, Think About This Please,
An Engine Needs Gas, Water/Coolant, Lubrication, Fuel And Air To Run.
Were Good Here Correct?
TOGETHER With The Transmission They Make Up The Powertrain Proper (PTP).  Wherever You Went To School, You Need To Go Back There And Ask For Some Of Your Money Back.  Okay Low Blow… But I’m Tired Of Explaining This To Trained Techs.

This Is Basic Engineering System Design 101.

Any (PTP) Component (Called By Whatever Name The Automotive Industry Uses To Squeeze Money) When It Fails.... The Entire System Fails!!! Period.
Everything, Is Designed For One Job!  To Move The Car, (Vehicle (Aircraft, Locomotives, Ships, Cycles)) To Sustain Motion Where Intended.
Do You Get It Now???  No Gas.... No Movement! .... No Water...No Movement For Long, No Oil... You Got A Big Hot Paperweight!

The Drive Train Is…. #1 The Engine (Powerplant) and It’s Component Parts (Electrical, Fuel, Lubrication and COOLING!
#2 The Drive Line (Transmission) Coupling, Torque Converter, Transmission Proper, Which Includes The Internal Valve Body, Trans Cooler And Associated Electricals Such That The System Operates In Unison, In Harmony And On Demand!

The Only Reason I'm Hot Here! A VW Guy Told My Wife... After Spending A Lot Of My Damn Money.... The Radiator And Oil Cooler And It's Associated Parts Were Not Part Of The Power Train.
They Are! It's Impossible To Run Any Car, Whether Made In Japan, Germany, And The US Or Anywhere Short Of LZ-642 That Transports People From Place To Place By Road, Without These Components.  The Seats, The Body/Chassis, Suspension, Tires Are The Comfort Facilitators.  You Can Still Power The Engine Without These!

Answer
powertrain is engine, tranny and diff  that it. U dont need water to cool off the engine
look at the old VW and Porsche engines  air cooled.
Same way with fuel   U can use electric or another form of fuel.

What is your question here any way?   IF u are trying to get mad about something that Chrysler or some other company does not cover via power train warranty   all INTERNAL engine, tranny and diff is covered. If all of the other systems are working correctly then the internal of the engine and tranny work as they should  I think u are getting the concept backwards,if an external system such as a radiator fail  then yes if the cust does not do something about it  it will cause internal damage to the engine.  Now if a piston gives out  or block cracks  that would be covered under powertrain warranty.
