Dodge Repair - 97 Dodge Grand Caravan SE stalling

Expert: Pete Lacey - 2/16/2005

Question
Hi Pete, I have a 97 Grand Caravan SE with 70,000 miles, and approx. last Sept., my van started periodically stalling upon take off.  Now 4 mechanics later and tons of computer diagnostics, a bad crank sensor replaced, nothing else showing up, van is still stalling.  Seems to do it more when I am in a hurry or impatient.  I gently push the gas at every take off and that seems to have lessoned the stalling, BUT...the weirdest thing about it is, after it stalls, we have to turn the key all the way off, count to 5, no less than 5, or the car will not turn over.  After 5 seconds, it starts up perfect, and we try to take off again. Will not work if the key is in aux.

It does not do this at EVERY takeoff but enough of them to irritate me.  Some days more than others. Seems to stall right as I would be going into second gear, or enough to coast me across an intersection so I can pull over.  There is no jolt, jump, shimmy or anything when the car dies, just loss of power.  Never stalls going into reverse.  No check engine light, no codes showing.

Thanks,

April

Everyone here seems to be at a loss.
