Dodge Repair - Overheating while off

Expert: James Bond 007 - 12/5/2004

Question
I have an '88 dodge ram 2wd pick-up with a 318 eng. When I am driving it, the water temp runs just above 1 quarter on the guage. The problem is when I cut it off, it gets hot after just a few minutes of sitting. Sometime to the point of bubbling out into the overflow reservior. When I crank it back up, which is sometimes slow starting, the temp comes back down in about 15 secs. I have replaced the thermostat, radiator cap, and temp. sensor and there oare no leaks that I can see. There is also no water in the oil. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
I see alot of people only change the thermostat without flushing the coolant. Hope you did this. Please check these areas out, also
1. Make sure water pump is circulating the coolant.
2. Radiator fan is running when engine gets warm.
3. Ignition timing is set to specs.
Hope this helps,,, and good luck..
