Question
I have a Dodge Intrepid SE 2001 with 80,500 miles on it and just today i am having a problem.  when i pull off it won't go. the engine will rev up and then it jerks into gear and makes this somewhat loud whizzing sound. i was kind of low on oil so i filled it up and it still didn't work.  it actually got a little worse.  do you have an idea of what it might be? do you know of any troubleshooting techniques i could do before i have to take it to the shop?  please answer asap

Answer
Chris,

The trans sounds like the low clutch is slipping, When you checked the fluid did it have a brown tint to it? if so the the trans is burned up and needs to be rebuilt. If you have a trans presure gauge you can hook up to the low/rev presure port and make sure your getting good presure.

Steve
