Steve, thanks for the answer. I just bought my 02 Dodge Stratus R/T from a car lot and was having the same problem. I'm glad it was nothing serious like I thought it was at first. Your answer helped me out on saving quite a bit of money!

We had this same problem on my 2002 Stratus. It came down to a pack on the coolant lines sitting on the top of the engine that was loose and leaking my coolant out. It was causing the car not to warm/cool properly.
Replacing the pack helped completely.
