Question I bought a 1985 Dodge Ramcharger. I drove it , and it ran well, to work and shopping for three days. On the way home on the third day, the motor quit running. The lights still burn, the heater blower runs, the turn signal clicks and blinks--- but the radio won't play and NOTHING happens when I turn the ignition key. The starter doesn't even try to turn the engine. All I get is silence.
I don't know whether to start by changing the starter solenoid or look to the distributor for a solution . I don't have a repair history as I bought it from a used car dealer.
Answer The first thing to do is see if your getting power to the starter. if so then check to see if you have power on the small wire at the starter while the key is turned.
If yes , then replace the starter.
If no power then you have another problem.
