Question
hi steve i have a dodge dakota 1988 v-6 3.9 2wd auto trani.i ran out of gas first.  replaced the battery a fuel injector, asd relay.  took it to a repair shop to be diagnosed and they said it was the fuel pump.  i replaced that it still didnt start then they said it could be an injector.so i took it out of the shop replaced th injectors still no start.  codes read back and forth as map sensor and memory lost. brain was checked ok.it will start after lost of injector spray but stop wont start again all lines, hoses and connections have been checked and am at my witts.  but also now the battery loses charge after a few crank tries do you have an answer greatly appreciated thanks

Answer
Denise,

I would start with the basics, Are you getting fuel? Is the fuel filter stopped up? Are you getting fire at the plugs?

Since you are getting a map sensor code, You may want to check the vacume at the map sensor. and also the vacume line

I would also check the fuel presure. Sometimes you can get a bad pump.

A while back I had a car that was towed to my shop that was out of gas. turned out it had gas and it was something else that had broken at just the same time as the low fuel light came on.

Also there are some fuse links behind the battery make sure they are good and not burned.

Good luck and let me know what you find and we can try some more things,

Steve
