Question
Hello,This week my nephew asked me to watch his dog. She came to me striate from the pound to my house, but she has a smell from maybe being there in kennels. Do you know what caused it and how can I take care of it?

Thanks

Answer
Hello Tina,

Specific health concerns is not really my area of expertise, but I didn't want to refuse your question because of it.  Any time you feel there is something wrong physically with an animal it should be seen by a vet.

Your nephew's dog could have a yeast infection; dogs can get bacterial and fungal infections just like humans.  A vet will be able to give a proper diagnosis and prescribe any medications needed to solve the issue.  I'm not a licensed vet so I apologias that I am not of much help.  You may want to consider asking an expert in the "Ask the Veterinarian" category rather than the kennel and boarding area.

I'm not sure if when you say 'pound' you mean a boarding facility?  If you picked up your nephew's dog for him I would ask him what vet your nephew goes to (if it was a boarding kennel, not a shelter) or ask the shelter what vet the dog saw while it was in their care.  It is best if the dog is seen by a person that is familiar with her.  If it was a boarding facility I would call to ask if she was acting any differently or having any issues urinating... and relay this information to the vet.

Thanks for the question and good luck!
Lani
