Question I HAVE TWO SMALL CAVALIER KING CHARLES DOGS 5 MONTHS OLD, IS IT ALRIGHT TO LEAVE THEM OUTSIDE IN A SMALL KENNEL FOR THE AFTERNOON APPROX 3 HOURS WHEWN I GO TO WORK OR MUST THEY COME IN
Answer Depends on where you live. Also, do they have shelter from the sun, rain, cold? I would suggest that if it is only three hours then you should crate them indoors. I think they would really appreciate that. I am familiar with the breed and I know that they are real people lovers. The fact that they are still young is a great time to start crate training.
I'm no professional dog trainer, but I've crate trained all my dogs. It really helps with potty training as well. What I did with my dogs is kept them in the crates indoors when I wasn't home and during the night. First thing I did when I got home was take them outside to do their thing. Then they seemed to understand that was where I wanted them to go.
Problem with leaving them in an outdoor run is that they won't learn to 'hold it'. if they get used to eliminating anytime they want, it may be harder for them to understand where to go and where not to go.
If you have any questions please let me know, but without knowing the weather, I wouldn't suggest it. I know most states have animal cruelty laws... which means they must have shelter and access to food and water. Also, if they bark and you have neighbors it could cause tension.
