Question
Hi Renee, a friend of mine was told if she were to breed two dapple dachshunds, that the litter would turn out to have severe health problems . Is this true ? can you help me or know of anyone that can ? thank you so much, Keith

Answer
Hi Keith. I do know that most breeders try to avoid breeding two dapples, as well as the merles. I have some very good links that explains doxie coat colors and such. I'll have to dig it out of my favorites file. I'll hunt that up for you tomorrow morning. I have a ton of favorites that I use for myslef, and have looked up for people that ask questions here. Someone else asked a similar question a while back, and I remember looking it up for them. Please be patient, and I'll have it for you first thing in the morning!:-)

** Ok, here's what I found out: Breeding two dapples isn't always bad. It can carry a lethal gene, but if neither parent carries it, then the pups should be ok. I guess you'd really have to know the dogs and what's behind them though. I put a link at the bottom here. It explains the genetics behind the colors, and talks about the double dapple. I hope it was of help!
