Dog Breeding and Whelping - Dashund Pregnancy ?

Question
I have a dashund who I thought breed some 70 days ago. Her boobs have grown a great deal, she has been lazy/sacluded, and irritable (exspecially with other dogs). However, we do not have puppies yet. Any suggestions on how I can know for sure. I have already determined, if she does not give birth by early next week she is going to the vet.

Answer
Hi Beverly. If she was bred 70 days ago, then I doubt she is pregnant unless she was bred recently. Lay her on her side, put one hand under her belly, the other on top. Gently press in with your fingertips, and slowly move them down her side. My best advice is to get her in to the vet now, and ask for an x-ray. Because of the way Doxie's are made, it may be too hard to feel a puppy, and if she is definitely pregnant, then 70 days is way too far over. I'd get her to the vet now just to be sure. She could be experiencing a false pregnancy. This is when the dog will act/look pregnant, but not be. It can be very convincing, making you think she is when she's not. They can even have contractions. I'd get her in so you'll know for sure. Good luck!
