Expertise
Positive: understand dog food ingredients, types of supplements for different situations (mostly organic), types of home cooking, premium commercial foods, single/novel protein sources and switching to this diet, have represented Healthy Pet Net Company for two years and Simplexity Health Supplements for one year. Negative: Cannot and will not diagnose but via my experiences, strengths, trials with my own pets and discussions with nutritional experts will share my research and learning with you.

Experience
First and foremost living with rescue pets who came to me with a multitude of nutritional, dietary and physical problems. I still spend every free moment I have learning even more about how to make my pals even healthier and happier. But when something is not "broken" I do not try and fix it. I will write to people who have questions and ONLY share my own experiences with a food or product. The rest is up to them.

Question
I have two bichon/poodle mixes. I have always cooked for them...mixed healthy variety of foods. The concern I keep having, even after 3 years are:

1. Do they get the right amount of protein vs other nutrient in the food
2. Do they get enough vitamimns/minerals?
3. My little girl is over weight, weighs 19 pounds..should be at 15. are there any recipes that you would recommend, that would help her to achieve the goal of losing weight? I dont want to do this the wrong way.
4. What ratios should there be between all necessary elements...protein/carbohydrates etc....
5. What supplements do you recommend that will fully complete the diets. My pet recommends pet tab by Pfizer, not viralab.

They both have skin issue on and off, but the girl has repeated staph infections since beginning of this year. I give them pro biotics...+ fish oil recently.

Please help...

Answer
Hi,
My responses are in all caps, ok?

I have two bichon/poodle mixes. I HAVE THREE DOGS--TWO YORKIES AND A SHIH-TZU :-)

I have always cooked for them--GREAT!!!!!!!...mixed healthy variety of foods. The concern I keep having, even after 3 years are:

1. Do they get the right amount of protein vs other nutrient in the food
PROTEIN YES, OTHER NUTRIENTS AND MINERALS, VITAMINS--NO!! YOU NEED TO LEARN BOUT REAL FOOD SUPPLEMENTATION AS I DID. I FOUND A GREAT COMPANY AND MENTOR AND WAS SO IMPRESSED I BECAME A REP FOR THAT COMPANY. I WILL GIVE YOU MY MENTORS NAME IF YOU LIKE. SHE IS FREE AND WONDERFUL. YOU WILL LEARN SO MUCH YOU WILL BE AWED.

2. Do they get enough vitamimns/minerals?
NO!! HOME COOKING ALONE IS VERY TRICKY AND CAN ACTUALLY HARM YOUR DOGS IF YOU DO NOT SUPPLEMENT PROPERLY, HOPEFULLY WITH REAL FOOD SUPPLEMENTS, ORGANIC VEGGIES AND FRUITS (A WHOLE OTHER TOPIC THAT i CANNOT ADDRESS HERE RIGHT NOW BUT WILL HELP YOU IF YOU WRITE AGAIN. i WILL ALSO PUT YOU ON TO MY MENTOR WHO LITERALLY HELPED SAVE MY yORKIES LIFE WITH A DIET AND REAL FOOD SUPPLEMENTS FROM LAKE KLAMATH.

3. My little girl is over weight, weighs 19 pounds..should be at 15. are there any recipes that you would recommend, that would help her to achieve the goal of losing weight? I dont want to do this the wrong way.
OKAY--THE BASIC ANSWER TO OVERWEIGHT IS LESS FOOD, MORE EXERCISE. SHE IS OBVIOUSLY EATING TOO MUCH AND YES, SHE IS OVERWEIGHT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE FEEDING HER BUT PLEASE, CUT DOWN.IF YOU ARE GIVING HER TREATS THROUGHOUT THE DAY, I HAVE TO ASK, 'WHY?" STOP ALL TREATS UNLESS IT'S A SLICE OF ORGANIC APPLE OR PEAR OR PEACH OR MELON ETC. SHE WILL LOSE WEIGHT WITH JUST THIS SUGGESTION. ARE OTHERS FEEDING HER? GIVING HER TREATS? PLEASE TELL OTHER PEOPLE TO STOP IT IF THEY ARE!!!iS SHE GETTING TWO 30 MINUTE WALKS A DAY? EXERCISE IN A YARD OR IN THE HOUSE? GO EASY HERE AS SHE IS OVERWEIGHT AND IF SHE HASN'T BEEN EXERCISING THEN START WITH REGIMENTED LEASH WALKING--NOT A SNIFF WWALK, A WALK-WALK ON A LEASH. IF YOU ARE LETTING YOUR DOGS FREE FEED THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM AND I WOULD STOP IT IMMEDIATELY.

4. What ratios should there be between all necessary elements...protein/carbohydrates etc....
DON'T KNOW EXACT RATIOS BUT I WOULD START HER WITH SMALL PORTIONS OF STEAMED ORGANIC CHICKEN, A TABLESPOON OF ORGANIC SQUASH (PUREED), A TABLESPOON OF YAM OR SWEET POTATO MASHED TO MUSH AFTER STEAMED AND DO THIS TWICE A DAY. IT'S NOT AS HARD AS IT SEEMS. I STEAM HORMONE, STEROID, ANTIBIOTIC FREE BONELESS, SKINLESS CHICKEN BREASTS (IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE LABELED ORGANIC AS LONG AS THEY ARE FREE OF THESE INGREDIENTS). PURDUE, MURRAYS HAVE THIS. THERE IS ONE OTHER I CANNOT REMEMBER.

5. What supplements do you recommend that will fully complete the diets. My pet recommends pet tab by Pfizer, not viralab.
NO NO NO, DO NOT USE STORE BOUGHT VITAMINS. THEY ARE ALL SYNTHETHICS, CREATED IN A LAB AND ARE NOT BIO AVAILABLE TO THE BODY. IT'S A WASTE OF TIME AND NOT GOOD FOR YOUR DOG. VETS ARE NOT KNOWN FOR THEIR NUTRITION SENSE BUT YOUR VET MEANT WELL. YOU WANT A REAL FOOD VITAMIN SUCH AS APA bLEND. GO TO:

www.simplexityhealth.com/susanbehlmar

YES, THIS IS MY LINK AND ONLY GO THERE IF YOU WANT TO. I AM NOT SOLICITING AND NOT ADVERTISING. I WANT TO HELP YOUR DOG AS MY MENTOR DID WITH MINE! I JUST KNOW THAT THE PROBIOTICS, DIGESTIVE ENZYMES AND APA bLEND( THE VITAMINS) ARE TOTALLY SUPERIOR. THE REAL DIFFERENCE HERE IS THAT THEY ARE REAL FOOD!!!!IF YOU DECIDE THAT YOU LIKE WHAT YOU SEE, LET ME KNOW AND I WILL PUT YOU IN TOUCH WITH THE MASTRESS OF SUPPLEMENTATION. BOTH OF HER DOGS LIVED TO BE 19!!

They both have skin issue on and off, but the girl has repeated staph infections since beginning of this year. I give them pro biotics...+ fish oil recently.
AGAIN, I DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND OR HOW MANY PROBIOTICS YOU GIVE BUT THERE IS A GREAT ONE IN THE VITAMIN SHOPPE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO TO GET THE ACIDOLPHIUS FROM SIMPLEXITY. IT'S CALLED DDS PLUS--BUT, WITH THIS PROBIOTIC YOU MUST GIVE IT 15 MINUTES BEFORE A MEAL AND NEVER, NEVER WITH FOOD OR ANYOTHER FLAVORING. IT DESTROYS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THIS PARTICULAR PROBIOTIC--OTHER PROBIOTICS CAN BE ADDED TO FOOD, BUT THIS ONE CANNOT.

LET ME KNOW IF THIS HELPED. LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT MORE HELP AND I WILL SEND MY MENTORS EMAIL ADDRESS--SHE DOES NOT CHARGE. LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT ANY OTHER INFO FROM ME. bYE NOW, SUE
